Organize Your Garage With These 8 Tips!

1. Implement shelving

Shelving helps to organize your garage. It opens up tons of space while keeping everything tidy! Whether it’s a mezzanine or a stand alone shelf, utilizing different forms of shelving will keep you from tripping every time you walk in! If you don’t want to invest in a mezzanine, visit your local hardware store where you’ll find many options for heavy-duty plastic shelving at an affordable cost!

2. Utilize labelled bins

There’s nothing more frustrating than having to look through 20 bins to find what you’re looking for. Take advantage of labelled rubbermaid bins to organize your garage! Simply adding a label onto each bin will quickly take your garage from 0 to 100! Utilizing labelled bins will make everything so easy to find. For example, place all of your Christmas clutter in one bin and your cleaners in another, this will eliminate space and clutter on the shelves while keeping everything tidy. If you’re not interested in writing labels on the bins, colour coding each bin is another direction to go in! Try this and let us know how much you love it!

3. Use empty garbage bins for sports equipment

Sounds crazy right? Think about it though, instead of letting your hockey gear collect dust and spiders in the corner of your garage, why not keep it all in the same spot? Remove the lid of your fresh and clean garbage bin, and fill it with sports equipment! If your family is sports-oriented, get multiple garbage bins and have one bin for each sport! It will also keep your equipment dry which means it won’t rot!

4. Create a toolkit 

As we know, garages can be a graveyard for tools! Organize your garage by separating your tools, nails and bolts. Once all of the items are organized and divided, separate them by placing them in small containers inside the toolbox! This will help keep your tools organized so you know exactly where to look when you need it! This will save you so much time and ultimately means you won’t have to rummage around for that pesky hammer! 

5. Place seasonal items higher and everyday items lower

Placing everyday items on a lower shelf will help your garage stay organized as a lower shelf means easy access, so you won’t need a ladder or a stool to reach it. Since we only need to reach the seasonal items once a year, placing seasonal items and bins on a higher shelf will eliminate space on the ground and it will also help you stay tidy as you won’t need to reach them as frequently. 

6. Lawn care items stay by the garage door

Keeping your lawn care items near the garage door makes it so much easier to do yard work! Keeping your lawn care items by the garage door is essential for easy access as it becomes time consuming having to run back and forth to grab the item you need. Taking care of your lawn takes long enough, eliminate some of the time by using this tip!

7. Keep boots and shoes off the floor

Have you ever tripped over a shoe in your garage? Yeah… So have we. Keep your shoes and boots off of the floor and place them on a shelf! This will keep all of your shoes, rollerblades, skates and boots all together and out of the way! 

8. Put your garage walls to use

Put your walls to proper use by hanging items such as bikes, brooms, ladders and other bulky items that you would normally lean on your garage wall! You can do this trick by using hooks or you can invest in a pegboard! This trick is one of our favourites as it makes it so much easier to park vehicles inside the garage! Let us know if you try it!
