Here are some organization tips and tricks that our team has found useful over the years. Packing can be a huge responsibility, so let’s make it fun and simple!

Colour code and use labels

Staying organized with labels is incredibly important as having an unorganized moving truck can quickly turn into a nightmare! One of the most important things to do when you’re packing is to put labels to good use. Using labels helps you easily identify where each item needs to be placed. Simply use a colourful marker and label each box, label and colour-code the box according to the room! For example - red labels = living room, green labels = kitchen, and so on!

Labeling and colour-coding will allow you to stay organized and will ultimately help you avoid any mistakes when trying to fill your boxes! It keeps everything tidy and makes moving so much easier!

Get tons of bubble wrap and crushed paper

The last thing you want is to open a box and see that your fragile items have been shattered or broken. Keeping bubble wrap and crushed paper handy is an easy way to ensure the safety of your belongings! Stock up on tons of it as it’s much better to be safe than sorry. Even items that you don’t think will break, don’t chance it! 

Packing your items alongside bubble wrap and crushed paper will provide a cushion for your delicate items during the duration of your move. It will aso protect surfaces from any scratches!

Designate boxes for essentials and necessities

Moving is not easy, it can be stressful, overwhelming and difficult, so alleviate some of the stress by placing your everyday items in its own box. 

Once you reach your new home, this box is designed to have everything you need without having to unpack every single box right away. Having an essentials box will eliminate the stress of unpacking everything right away, it’s best to have this box significantly stand out from the others so you’re not digging around when you get to your destination. Think of everyday essentials such as toilet paper, disposable dishes, bathroom necessities, hygienic care and so on. 

Double seal

Have you ever travelled and realized once you got to your destination that your shampoo leaked and spilled all over your bathroom necessities? Don’t worry, we’ve been there too! Another super important tip involves double-sealing bottles and liquids. First, have a designated box for your liquid items and seal them by tightening the cap on the bottle to ensure no spillage. Next, take a strip of extra bubble wrap and wrap the bubble wrap around the lid of the bottle then secure it with tape. Double-sealing will ensure no spillage on your journey and will keep your mind at ease!

Leave your clothes on a hanger

This tip is super useful and will save you tons of time. Leaving your clothes on the hanger! Sounds crazy right? Trust us, take a garbage bag and cut a hole at the bottom of the bag. Next, take your clothes and put them through the bag, pulling the hangers through the hole you cut. This tip will save you tons of time when you reach your new home as you’ll be able to keep all of your clothes together with no scattered mess! 

Keep the weight with boxes to a minimum

You know that feeling when you’ve put way too many items in a grocery bag and struggle carrying it inside? That feeling when your arm feels like it’s going to fall off? Same idea applies to boxes! Boxes with heavy items such as books, jars or any other heavy household item will be a challenge to lift. Constantly lifting heavy items will increase your chances of getting injured. It’s best to place a few heavy items at the bottom of a box, followed by lighter items on top. Doing so will maximize the space in the box without having to worry about the weight of it!
