Charity isn’t a foreign concept. Surely, you’ve given or received a hand-me-down at some point. Happiness comes when you give, but the real gift is the tremendous difference your donation can make in a person’s life. What might seem like decluttering, can in turn mean a great deal to the person on the receiving end of your generosity. Keeping the Legacy Alive


The hardest part of sorting through clutter is disposing of something that holds a memory. Oftentimes, our reason for holding on to something is that it still works, has use, or it came from someone special. While that's true, the idea that giving it away is not a bad one. When you donate it, beyond being useful to someone, it can also serve as a way to keep the legacy of a loved one alive.


One of the most popular charities our customers request is The Salvation Army. The "Sally Ann," is one of the largest charities in Canada and the US with a widespread network of thrift stores. Additionally, they give back to society through emergency relief operations, building shelters and homes for the underprivileged, and conducting food drives. We are fortunate to be a bridge between our customers and The Salvation Army.



Encouraging a sense of Volunteering in Youth


One thing that can stop us from donating is the belief that our small gift won’t make a difference. Nothing could be further from the truth. Your small donation can start a chain reaction of “paying it forward”. Donating to an organization like St. Vincent de Paul, who rely on volunteers to carry out their work, encourages a sense of generosity in society. You may think that a box of clothing won't do much for anyone, but in reality, your small donation is sold in their thrift stores to help keep their mission alive.


Many customers request we take their goods to St Vincent de Paul. The organization is known to send their volunteers to anyone in need.  They encourage youth to dedicate their time to helping others who need it most. SSVP works with the idea of helping the neighbour. At Skunky’s we have been able to donate many of the things we have hauled away from homes to SSVP, which has led to a considerable difference within the communities in which we  operate. Your donation is a key link in the chain that leads to compassion in society.



Dealing with the housing crisis


It’s no secret that housing is an issue. The price of real estate is through the roof and many of the most vulnerable in our communities are paying the price of home insecurity. While shelters overflow, resources to help address the issues are scarce. Repurposing your goods to a charity like Habitat for Humanity can help make a dent in the housing crisis.


Habitat for Humanity is another reputable, charitable organization requested by our customers. They have a strong network in the USA, Canada, and Europe. Habitat is most known for building homes for the underprivileged. Skunky’s Junk Removal’s connection with Habitat comes from our locations in the US and Canada. Your donation provides the resources to support their home building projects. You can be confident knowing that your donation can help someone find a home.
